McNally's Outpost | Our Story
A Mountain Tradition
Serving the Sierra Nevada handcrafted burgers, and scratch-made favorites. Honest food, warm hospitality, and mountain charm.

The Man Who Built Fairview
John McNally arrived in the Kern River Valley in the early 1930s and never left — rancher, logger, dam builder, and eventually the sole deputy sheriff patrolling a thousand square miles on horseback. In 1941, he turned that devotion to this land into a steakhouse.

A Place That Grew Organically
Fairview Lodge wasn't designed — it accumulated, the way good mountain places do. Red barn structures, a general store, a fire pit courtyard, and the rush of the Kern River just beyond the treeline add up to something completely unrepeatable.

Passing the Torch
Current owners James and Darlyn Thurin and Paul Frankforter carry the same hands-on spirit McNally himself had. Owner Jim is a fixture on the floor, greeting guests like they've driven up the canyon just to see him.

McNally's Outpost, Downtown Kernville
The newest chapter brings the same secret-sauce recipes into downtown Kernville, seven days a week — burgers, shoestring fries, and a sunny outdoor patio after a day on the river.
